V2X (Vehicle-to-everything) is a vehicular communication system featuring the passing of information from a vehicle to any entity that may affect the vehicle. V2X is a term that refers to high-bandwidth, low latency and highly reliable communication between a broad range of transport and traffic-related sensors. It incorporates other more specific types of communication as V2I (Vehicle-to-infrastructure), V2V (Vehicle-to-vehicle), V2P (Vehicle-to-pedestrian), V2D (Vehicle-to-device), and V2G (Vehicle-to-grid). V2X is aim to optimize overall traffic flows, creating an intelligent transport environment with fewer accidents, congestion, and emission issues.
V2X is based on 5.9GHz Dedicated Short Range wireless Communication (DSRC), a two-way, short-range wireless communication technology, providing low latency and reliable communication, even 360-degree situational awareness. V2X warns the driver of road hazards, helping reduce traffic injuries and fatalities; without requirement of any infrastructure for vehicles to communicate, V2X assuring safety especially in remote or little developed areas.
Generally, in V2X communication, V2V and V2I are two systems that are mainly emphasized. V2V is an automobile technology designed to allow automobiles to "talk" to each other. V2V application includes Intersection Movement Assist (IMA), Left Turn Assist (LTA), Emergency Electronic Brake Light (EEBL), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), and Blind Spot Warning (BSW). V2V system contains core information, comprising vehicle position, speed, direction, brake status, and size; plus variable data such as tire pressure, headlights, height of bumper etc.
V2I is the next generation of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). V2I technologies capture vehicle-generated traffic data, wirelessly providing information such as advisories from the infrastructure to the vehicle that inform the driver of safety, mobility, or environment-related conditions. Wide range application consisting of emergency vehicle approaching, hazardous location, pedestrians crossing, wrong way driving, roadwork, stationary vehicle, traffic condition, slow vehicle and condition.
