7STARLAKE announces the desirable 1U Fanless IEC 61850-3 Power Automation Computer SCH200!
- September 28, 2020

Gateways are rugged communication devices collecting numerous data, such as metering, status, events and fault report from any protection device while sending this information upstream to a control center, transfering commands issued from the control center to other devices. One example of a particular need for gateways is in the energy industry. The energy industry requires specific types of devices using specific protocols. With PLCs/PACs becoming popular in these applications, gateways has grown into a necessary part of Substation Automation Systems, and its reliability may affect the safety of whole system at a station level.

As a leading company specialized in energy related application, 7Starlake’s experienced team designed an extremely reliable Gateway system SCH200, which is equipped with 125V DC-in redundant power supply preventing the whole system from unexpected shutdown. Powered by Intel 9th Gen. Core i7-9700TE processor, SCH200 owns highly efficient processing capability to deal with a large amount of data delivering between IEC-61850 devices and the Control Center. In advantage of other outstanding features, such as 2 x 100Base-FX LAN port and 8 x COM (6 x RS232/422/485 variable, 2 x RS232), SCH200 is an undoubtedly best choice for Gateway application in Substation.

Key benefits

1. Fantastic Four

(1)Security Redundancy

Data security relates to protecting data, in a database or a file storage system, from unwanted activities such as cyberattacks or data breaches. By integrating TPM module, SCH200 operating systems can require an authentication to protect keys, data or systems.

(2)Power Redundancy

To ensure continuity of the service, SCH200 features wide power range to keep the system’s reliability and you can expect longer life-span as well. Sudden drop or surge of power posts absolutely no threat to this smart system.

(3)Data Redundancy

Data redundancy offers an extra layer of protection and reinforces the backup by replicating data to an additional system. RAID function supports an assortment to help protect or speed up the performance of a computer's disk storage. RAID 0/1 function makes SCH200 to archive it.

(4)Network Redundancy

PRP/HSR network will be required as an efficient and cost effective solution in order to construct a seamless/bumpless communication infrastructure to ensure maximum system availability.

2. Rich communication Interface

In advantage of SCH200 diverse I/O, 4 x LAN, 12V DC Input ( 2 x 200W Redundant PSU ), 8 x COM, the SCH200 system can satisfy all our clients.

3. IEC61850

As the international standard for power substation automation systems, IEC 61850 defines the communication between devices in the substation and related system requirements. Thanks to IEC61850 standard, a unified communication protocol in power automation, communication and the engineering process are now being standardized worldwide. IEC-61850 standard enables the integration of the equipment and systems from different suppliers, reducing the burden on the configuration and maintenance of these systems. The protocol also meets utilities’ requirements for long-term system expandability.

IEC 61850-3 defines the general requirements, mainly regarding construction, design and environmental conditions for utility communication and automation IEDs (intelligent electronic devices) and systems in power plant and substation environments. These general requirements are in line with requirements for IEDs used in similar environments, for example measuring relays and protection equipment. In addition, IEC 61850-3 standard ensures that if the device is subjected to high levels of EMI, shock, or vibrations, data will still be successfully transmitted.

4. Extended Temperature Range

Power substations transport electricity from power plants to homes, businesses, and factories, and are a critical component of the smart grid. It operates 24 hours non-stop. The harsh environment of power substation demands specially design to dissipate the heat. To ensure high reliability and stability, 7starlake designed a desirable fanless computer – SCH200. It features extended temperature, for example, SCH200 can normally operate at -20°C, even up to 60°C it still able to work smoothly. With special industrial extended range of temperature layout, SCH200 can also reduce the potential computer glitches caused by hardware incompatibility and losses of connectivity caused by shock and vibration.
