Join us on a test ride of a driverless shuttle that collects fares using face recognition. At this year’s International Auto Parts and Accessories Show, exhibitors present the latest smart transport solutions. For example, there’s this driverless shuttle that uses a smart payment system.First, snap a photo to create a profile in the passenger database. After that, a face scan at the smart stop is all it takes to board the shuttle. The self-driving shuttle can carry up to 12 passengers and reach 20 kilometers an hour. It has positioning and anti-collision warning systems installed at the front and back, and it can run for 10 hours on a full charge. In the event of an emergency, passengers can press a button to activate the shuttle’s cameras and loudspeaker, which let them communicate with the control room.Martin TingExhibitorWe will work with cities and counties along the west and east coast to set up a so-called local tour shuttle system. If we partner with theaters, we can hold premiere screenings. We can also extend local scenic streetscapes into the shuttle. With the so-called eye-tracking system inside, everyone in the shuttle can see different landscapes. The driverless shuttle is still in its trial stage, offering test rides at 10 Taipei locations. After regulations on smart transport are passed, the vehicle will formally hit the road.
